Gerald Cormier's Background
Gerry was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and raised in nearby Hinsdale. At just 16, he was introduced to the world of manufacturing when he joined the maintenance crew at Marland Mold Company—a position offered to him by his baseball coach. This early experience sparked his interest in the field and led to a senior year work-study program that transitioned into a full-time mold-making internship after graduation from High school.
Relocation to Florida
In 1984, Gerry moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he began working for Ethyl Corporation. There, he expanded his skills in mold making, building molds for clients such as IBM, Spalding, Casio, Snap-On, and others. While building molds, Gerry took an interest in the design side of the business and taught himself AutoCAD. Soon after he transitioned into design, working at American Torch Tip in Bradenton, Florida. There, he designed molds and welding accessories while earning his Associate of Arts degree. He then moved to Orlando and in 1998, completed a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida (UCF), all while working for the Physics Department, where he managed a machine shop and manufactured advanced laser and optics equipment.
Engineering Career & Corporate Achievements
Over the next 25 years, Gerry established himself as a leading figure in manufacturing engineering.
Motorola: As a Component Technology Engineer, Gerry traveled globally, providing troubleshooting expertise and solutions across the company’s supply base.
Anspach, Synthes, DePuy-Synthes (a Johnson & Johnson Company): There, he continued developing solutions to complex engineering problems in both base business operations and new product development, working on power tools and robotics, developing new tooling and new processes.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
In 2012, Gerry founded Wellington Precision, a company focused on research and development in prototyping and process engineering.
In 2017, he acquired Talflo Pump Kits. After thoroughly evaluating the market and industry, he saw a strong alignment with his passions for U.S.-based manufacturing and environmentally sustainable solutions.
